20HC, 40GP or 45HC: Choosing Length and Height

Compare 20ft high cube, 40ft standard dry and 45ft high cube by cargo clearance, site access and transport arrangements, with Oceanbox public listings and selling prices.

Which constraint are you trying to solve?

Choose a container around the cargo and the usable placement, rather than the largest format in a price list. Oceanbox distinguishes 20HC, 40GP and 45HC: a 20ft high-cube format, a 40ft standard dry format and a 45ft high-cube format. Length and height are separate decisions. Extra nominal length does not resolve every height requirement, and a high-cube description does not guarantee the opening your cargo needs.

Write down the largest packed cargo dimensions, the planned loading direction and the space available at the site. Keep these constraints separate from the number of items you want to store. A quote should identify the exact equipment code and the specifications of the offered batch.

Compare three formats without assuming batch dimensions

Decision questions for 20HC, 40GP and 45HC
Published codeFormat to reviewWhen to consider itConfirm before ordering
20HC20ft high cubeReview vertical clearance within a shorter nominal length.Internal height, clear door height and whether the placement and loading plan fit.
40GP40ft standard dryReview a longer standard-height format for dry cargo or storage.Usable internal length, door clearance, floor condition and access to goods after loading.
45HC45ft high cubeReview longer high-cube equipment when both nominal length and height are relevant.Actual usable dimensions, delivery access and acceptance by the intended transport operator.

These descriptions identify size classes, not verified internal measurements, payloads or universal transport acceptance. Obtain written batch specifications before calculating whether cargo fits.

Measure the opening as well as the space inside

Cargo must pass through the intended opening before it can use the internal space. Ask for measured clear door width and height and the usable internal dimensions. Include packaging, lifting attachments or protrusions in the cargo dimensions you send with the request.

If an item can only enter in one orientation, show that orientation. Explain any turning, positioning or handling step needed inside the equipment. Do not infer that a nominal high-cube label establishes safe forklift entry or that the floor supports a planned concentrated load; confirm the handling arrangement using the actual offered equipment details.

Plan retrieval, not only the first loading operation

For storage, sketch where items will be placed and which must remain reachable. A longer container may fit the layout on paper while still requiring goods to be moved before another item can be accessed. Explain aisle, retrieval and loading requirements when comparing offers.

If access along the side is the requirement, compare 20ft side-access configurations and the full-side versus four-side-door guide. High cube, longer length and side access describe different requirements; do not substitute one configuration for another without checking the layout.

Check placement and transport before selecting a longer format

Provide the available placement space, approach route, turning constraints and unloading plan to the relevant delivery or transport operator. Confirm that the selected equipment and the proposed handling arrangement can be accepted. A nominal length in a listing does not establish that a particular vehicle, site or transport service can handle it.

State whether the equipment is for storage, transport or conversion and request the appropriate equipment documentation for that use. Review actual-unit photos and condition evidence. The condition guide explains questions to ask about published one-trip and used descriptions.

Verify availability, currency, final selling price and release terms with Oceanbox. A Pickup label or elapsed ETA is not release authorization. Check the original public inventory for changes.

Prepare a size-specific offer request

Send the exact code, city and state or province, quantity, intended use, largest packed cargo dimensions, required opening, site constraints and collection date to rolly@oceanbox.cn. Ask for a written offer specifying the actual batch and what preparation or collection arrangements are included.

Compare offers on the same condition and collection basis. Published selling prices and original timing notes require confirmation; an elapsed ETA or a Pickup label is not release authorization. See the inquiry-to-pickup guide before arranging collection. For conventional alternatives, review 20GP and 40HC.
